Sun Moon University(Sun Jo Hwang, president) held the remodeling completion ceremony of ‘Creative Study Zone’ on the first floor of the Central Library on March 6. About 300 people participated, including Sun Jo Hwang, president of Sun Moon University, Dong-pyo Yang, executive director of Sun Moon Academy, Dong-shik Shin, director of the Chungnam Headquarters of Small & medium Business Corporation, and Jun-tae Oh, president of the student council.

The completion ceremony was presided over by Kyeong-shik Oh, director of the Office of General Affairs, and processed in the order of “progress report” presented by Chang-ha Choi, director of the Office of Planning, “opening speech” delivered by Yeon Lee, director of the Central Library, “congratulatory message” delivered by Dong-shik Shin, director of the Chungnam Headquarters of Small & medium Business Corporation, “words of encouragement” delivered by Sun Jo Hwang, president of Sun Moon University, “words of gratitude” delivered by Jun-tae Ho, president of the student council, and tape cutting.

The first floor of the main building and the first to the forth floor of the library has been transformed for the students. The remodeling work began on January 11 and was completed on the day of the ceremony. The total gross area of construction is 6,587㎡.

On the first floor of the main building, a coffee lounge(Sun Moon KONA Coffee), resting zone, creativity zone, study rooms and an open study zone are newly established. On the first floor of the library, a lounge, reception hall, media zone, seminar rooms, and an auditorium are constructed. Existing reference rooms on the second to forth floor are respectively transformed into a resting lounge, PC Zone, and group-study rooms.

Sun Moon University planned to create creative study and education space for students in line with the Advancement of College Education(ACE) project, which is supported by the Korean government. The basic plan to construct space for students was established on August of the previous year, and finally completed the remodeling work on February 28th.

The creative zone, study rooms, and other facilities will be utilized for programs for enhancing capability of self-directed study which is related to the ACE project, capstone design, and venture discussion. Moreover, the hotel-like cafe lounge will provide relaxing space for students who get tired and exhausted due to hard study.

Sun Jo Hwang, president of Sun Moon University said, “A university which never changes itself cannot expect to be further development. Our university is changing faster than any other university, and it is the students who are always in the center of the change.” He also added, “The Creative Zone is one of the examples of our change for students. I promise that our university will create a leading model of a student-centered university by consistently fulfilling what students need.”

Jun-tae Oh, president of the student council said “I am happy that we can have useful places such as the lounge, seminar rooms, and so on since we have suffered lack of space for rest and team meetings so far.” He also added, “I am very grateful to the school for what they prepared for us. I hope more facilities can be established for the students in the future as well.”

Meanwhile, Sun Moon University was selected for the ACE project in 2016, and has devoted itself to spreading the education model that encourages students to study hard while designing their own future.
