Sunmoon University Holds '2018 SMU Global Forum'
The "2018 Global Forum" was hosted by the Link+ Project of Our University from August 17th to August 22nd at the Asan Campus. The global forum was held under three main themes: State, Industry, and Science.
The Global Vice President Ing. Anton Uhnak and 11 officials from 6 universities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia attended the event.
The objective was to present successful cases of Industrial-University cooperation among our countries and create a global model for industrial cooperation through benchmarking.
The program included:
A general overview of Sun Moon University and a campus tour.
Lectures from each side regarding academic programs, Industrial-University's cooperation
Discussions
Consultation sessions and visit to departments
Business meetings
Visit to local companies
Etc...
Each side shared diverse contents of the Industrial-University's cooperation activities. Besides our University, there were presentations from two Korean Universities (Chungnam National and Chungbuk National) regarding their academic achievements and others ones from Slovakia and Czech.
As stated above, in addition to the domestic Universities, the forum was also attended by representatives of some local organizations and companies. Among them was, personnel from Chungnam Regional Headquarters, the Chungnam Venture Association, Small and Medium (SME) Promotion Agency, Chungnam Business Co., Sung Yun Choi Special Medical Co etc... They had fruitful interactions with the visiting team.
Moreover, we arranged a consultation session on bioengineering and automatic technologies between our departments and our visitors. Technical consultations were also conducted by the Eastern Europe visiting team.
Sun Moon signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Slovak Institute of Technology which is the second largest engineering college in Slovakia founded in 1657. The two Universities promised to create a leading model of global Industry-University collaboration and exchange research, student activities, resources, and credit.
Through its international infrastructure, Sunmoon University is helping local companies and related organizations to advance overseas. In fact, with the establishment of the office of Global Industry-University Cooperation in the Czech Republic, Sun Moon has achieved international-academic cooperation results through Ing. Anton Global Vice President of the Czech Republic.
Last year, four Korean companies visited major Eastern European countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. Their visit enabled them to advance overseas and facilitate international exchange with their counterparts. In particular, the uniwarm one of our local company plans to export carbon-based heat mats to Turkey and Iran.
Besides Czech Republic, France, the U.S., Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, Iran, China, and Singapore have opened a ‘Global Business Cooperation Hub Office’ to facilitate a global Industry-University collaboration. Sun Moon University has also established a strong cooperation with 1,639 family business and companies at home and abroad. In May of this year, we held a global start-up camp in Chengdu, China and in July, we held a global business meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Dr. Hwang Sun-jo, president of the university, said that "we will take advantage of these international infrastructures to help regional companies and related organizations successfully enter Eastern Europe countries and lead the renaissance of our province."
In fact, the forum was very successful. All the participants expressed their satisfaction at the end of the event and are looking forward to the next one.
